Strongroom F.C. formed for a one-off 5-a-side tournament at Old St Powerleague in 2007. Led by captain Dean Finch and comprised of a mish mash of friends, acquaintances and colleagues past and present, the team lost in dramatic and spectacular fashion.
Most people would have given up there and then; and anyone who saw that first performance from the Reds would have definitely recommended it, but due to the unerring and dogged determination of the teams founding members, it was decided to continue.
After a season of hangovers and cage fighting in the Sunday league at Old St, we made an executive decision to re-locate to Worship St Weds evening league, and this is where the current Strongroom FC team had a chance to flourish.....
Constantly suffering from irregular line ups and lack of goalkeeper (and fitness, skill etc...), victories were rare and Strongroom rapidly dropped through the leagues.
However, the founding core of Dean, Jay Blower and James Sullivan battled on with an ever evolving team line up, which, over the years, has included amongst others:
Adrian Tulley, David Curtis, David Christmas, Dave Harrison, David Finch, James Davey, Kieren Porter, Lee Attreed, Mark Coussins, Mike Downs, Mike Cooter, Noah, Robert Fox, Tom, Vish Patel, Ziya Mustafa and probably more besides!
Fortunes really changed when current top scorer Michael Buckley came into the fold - we now had a team member with unbounding enthusiasm and a clinical finish up front. He in turn brought in our first reliable goalkeeper, Gavin Home - and from here on in, victories became significantly more frequent and goal differences significantly diminished!
And with new recruits Matthew Ward and David Bushell providing extra support in defense, midfield dynamo Seb Cristiano, and current new boy on the block, Pratik Barman as reserve goalkeeper, confidence is at a new peak and the future looks bright for Strongroom FC..
Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Strongroom FC!
